Membership:
David & D’Anne discussed membership and the new t-shirts design, and how we erred by going through official channels, but that the logo is kewl anyway.
Web:
We discussed the status of the different web sites, gave an overview of them, and asked for volunteers. We indicated that eventually the official sjsuhfes site would be the one stop shop for all chapter activities (at least always the first stop).
Newsletter:
Various aspects discussed. A call was put out for writers.
National Ergo Month:
Last year’s events discussed. This year’s plans discussed. It was mentioned that we now have a database of local schools and contacts that we could utilize for getting an article published.
Regarding doing presentations, it was pointed out that a woman by the name of “Phyllis” in the psychology department was the key contact for that department – especially in terms of getting permission to speak in classrooms.
Speakers, Events, Activities:
Last year’s events’s discussed, and new ideas elicited from attendees.
Some of the ideas:
Speakers:
DESIGN – there seems to be a much stronger interest in design over research.
Get an elite apple design guy to speak.
Ellen mentioned that she might have an ipod contact.
D’Anne mentioned that she was interested in computing items / hand held devices.
The possibility of McClusky (sp?) speaking was discussed (ID dept.).
Field Trip:
Specialized bike factory?
Mythbusters.
Social Activities:
Go places where we can hear each other.
Rennasiance Fair.
Bowling.
Wii (sp?) new video game console party?
Baseball game.
Rock climbing.
Shooting range.
Suba Diving trip / training.
Ski Trip!
S.F. trip / photo shoot.
At one point someone brought up the idea of having a thoughtless act contest / event as well.
Post Meeting:
Most everyone walked over to Pizza My Heart, where we obtained the large private room there. The thought came up to maybe reserve this room in the future for meetings. Free beer was giving out to the students (3 pitchers for 13 people (10 drinkers) worked out perfect). People stayed for quite some time discussing school, project vs. thesis, etc. A grand old time was had by all :-).
